    Great Question Buddy !!

EUR 5.-How Can one calculate the magnetic field required to induce feromagnetic materials?

I need to calculate the strength of a magnetic field required to magnetize a metallic mesh framework made out of permendur (Fe and Co combination) to about 4 KOe (kilo Oersted).

I am looking for formulas and explanations of how a magnetic field induces metals to be magnetic as well. For example if an iron nail is held stationary (not in contact) near a magnet the nail becomes magnetic and another nail if near to the original nail will be magnetically attracted to the first nail. How, and why does this work?

I am interested in all sorts of answers so please feel free to comment, however I will only accept solutions giving formulas and explanations completely answering this question.

ok I'll try to work on it, it has been a while since I worked with magnets.

    Hey Hakam,
What I want is a calculation that shows the relationship between the external magnetic field and the magnetic field that is induced in an object (nail or mesh). What I am really looking for is a general formula to calculate the induced magnetic field that will be 'produced' by the nail near a magnetic field.

For example if a place a nail 30cm from a magnetic field of 1.3T what kind, and how strong of a field can be produced in the nail. (so it attracts other nails or metallic objects).

    thanks
    Alex

    Dear Alex,
Just to be sure, you want an explanation why do metallic nails become magnetized if held near a magnet and you want to calculate the strength of the magnetic field required to magnetize your metallic mesh. Am I right?
